Literature Text

When I woke up, I was in someone's house. I struggled to get up.

“Where am I?” I asked.

***

Now, this is where it gets confusing. You see, like I already told you, I'm uh...more than one person. No, I don’t have a split personality disorder. No, it’s nothing like that. I am literally more than one person. In fact, I'm three.

In an attempt to lessen the confusion, I will explain each of them to you:
First, there is Nyirthan-Liaison. That’s me. I'm a pretty tall man of 16 with messy black hair and thick bangs that cover up my forehead. My eyes are also black.

Then, there’s Nyirthan. He looks exactly like me. He even has my trademark bangs, the ones that cover up my forehead. The only difference is that his hair and eyes are brown, not black.

Finally, there is Liaison. He's a pretty mysterious guy. He’s so smart and has tons of ideas. When we’re in trouble, he’s there to save our butts. He has dark blue eyes and clear silver hair with short, stubby bangs that barely cover up his forehead.

Anyway, right now I was Nyirthan and Liaison.

Now, I will continue to tell my story from Nyirthan’s point of view. I chose him because he is most like me. Of course, I should give Liaison his say too. I'm definitely working on it.

“Nyirthan? Nyirthan, wake up.”

Who is that? I thought. Is that you, Liaison? Let me sleep…

Liaison sighed.

I got up and stretched. “Liaison, what’s wrong? Why did you wake me up?”

“We've split.”

“Oh my gosh, we have! We should fuse together right away!”

“Have you already forgotten about that girl? She'd freak out if we suddenly disappeared.”

“What girl?”

“She checked us out of the hospital.”

“The hospital? Well, I do kind of remember a hospital, but I thought I was dreaming.”

Liaison smiled. “You must've been asleep for a very long time.” He continued speaking. “Anyway, she left to buy some groceries. She should be back soon.”

“So, is there any food?”

Liaison gulped. Nyirthan asked just the question to break the ice. Liaison was very hungry. He had never known hunger. He rarely ate. In fact, he thought it to be impossible for him to be hungry. “Well,” he licked his chops. “There is a fridge and there is food in it, but I don't think we should eat anything until that girl comes back.”

“But I'm so hungry.”

“Yeah, me too…”

***

Yeah, it’s me again, Nyirthan-Liaison. Anyway, I kind of have something to tell you about Liaison. He doesn’t sleep and he very rarely eats.

There’s a reason for this, though. You see, since Nyirthan and Liaison are the result of a split fusion (namely mine), things are different. If one of them sleeps, the other one doesn’t. If one of them eats the other one doesn’t have to.

I guess, in a way, it's a bit convenient, but people could very easily think something is wrong with you if you stay up all the time and never eat.

Of course, Liaison really can’t resist sweets. He could eat a whole gallon of vanilla ice cream if he had enough cones to scoop it out on.

Anyway, Nyirthan is the one who eats and sleeps a lot. If he stopped eating and sleeping completely, it would mess up both of them. It would set things way off balance.

“Liaison,” I said sweetly. “I don't think she'd mind if we just looked to see what was there.”

“Nyirthan, don't tempt me.”

1 got up and headed towards the kitchen. “I'll just check, okay?”

Liaison shook his head, but I was already halfway there.

I opened the fridge and was greeted by a smorgasbord of different scents and flavors. There were all kinds of different foods. There were apples, cucumbers, zucchini, fish, rice and not much else.

I came back into the living room.

Liaison shook his head. “I told you the girl was going to the grocery store, didn't I?”

I closed my eyes. “Yeah, you did. I guess she has a few things to pick up.”

I sat on the bed next to him. I heard the doorknob turn and a young girl, probably the same age as me, walked in carrying two large bags of groceries.

I got up. “Do you need any help?”

“Yeah, that would be great.”

I carried one of the bags into the kitchen. “Where do you want me to put these?”

“On the table.”

I set the bag on the table. Then, she came in and did the same. She took the groceries out of the bag and put them away. After that, she stuffed the empty bags into a cabinet.

Then, she went back into the living room. She acted as though she had forgotten something. “Oh no! I nearly forgot about you guys! Have you eaten yet?”

“No,” Liaison said. “We were waiting for you.”

“Well, that’s very kind of you, but I don't want you starving either.” Then, she ran into the kitchen and began preparing something.

I was back in the living room with Liaison. “I wonder what she’s making. It smells like rice balls…”

“And stir fry,” Liaison said dreamily.

Then, the girl invited us into the kitchen and set a plate in front of both of us. We were right. It was rice balls and stir fry!

“Thank you,” I said before stuffing my face with rice balls. “These are really good!”

Liaison only ate one rice ball. He finished off the stir fry. “They are.”

The girl seemed flattered. “Thank you.”
